Google Business Profile disappeared? Where it went and how to get it back

The short answer
A profile that was showing up and then vanished has usually done one of six things: it was suspended, an edit put it back into review, Google merged it with a duplicate, someone marked it closed, the account that owns it changed, or it is still there and you are looking from the wrong place. Each one takes about a minute to check. Start with the sign in, because the profile itself will tell you most of what you need. 1. Sign in and read the notice
Go to google.com/business with the account that manages the profile. If you see a red or yellow banner about a suspension, that is your answer; the guide on a suspended Google Business Profile covers the fix. If you see "pending" or "under review" next to something, keep reading. If you see nothing unusual, move to step 3.
2. A big edit put it back into review
Changing the name, address, category or phone can send a profile back for review, and while Google checks, it may hide the listing or hide just the change. Look for anything marked pending in the profile. Review takes days, occasionally a couple of weeks. Do not undo the edit and redo it; that restarts the clock. 3. Google merged it with a duplicate
Search your business name and your phone number on Google Maps. If a listing appears with your name but old hours, a former phone, or reviews you do not recognize, Google has folded your profile into another one, often an older unclaimed listing. Look for "Own this business?" on that listing and claim it; once you manage it, you can bring the hours and photos up to date. 4. Someone marked it closed
Anyone can suggest that a business is closed, and Google sometimes accepts the suggestion. Search your name on Maps. If the listing shows "Permanently closed" or "Temporarily closed", open it while signed in, and use the option to mark the business as open. If you are not signed in as the manager, use "Suggest an edit" and report that it is open. The fix usually takes effect within days.
5. The account changed
Profiles belong to a Google account, not to the business. If the person who set it up left, changed their email, or lost access, the profile is still there but invisible to you. Search your business name on Google while signed out. If the listing is public and you just cannot manage it, look for "Own this business?" and request access; Google emails the current owner and gives them a few days to respond before handing it over.
6. It is still there and you are searching from the wrong place
Google shows local results based on where the searcher is standing. Searching from home, forty miles from the shop, for "nail salon near me" may not show you, and that is correct. Search your exact business name plus city in a private browser window. If it appears, the profile is fine and what changed is your ranking for a general search, which is a different problem: usually a competitor got more complete, more photos, or more recent reviews than you.
If none of the six apply
Give it three to five days. Google sometimes drops a listing from one surface (Search or Maps) while it processes changes on the other. If it is still gone after a week and the signed in profile shows no notice, Google's Business Profile help center has a contact option for profiles that are verified but not appearing; use the profile's exact name and address when you write.
